Visit to Newhaven Fort
27th July 2013
We have visited Newhaven Fort a number of times over the years and enjoyed it. There is always something new to discover, and our visit this year was during their Living History weekend. We learned that a bunch of kids armed with wooden muskets will easily rout a small troop of Foot Guards from the Coldstream Regiment (1815) despite their superior firepower. We heard how the LDV quickly became the Home Guard and kept our nation safe with wickedly sharpened farm instruments. But most of all we learned that it always rains when we visit - although on this occasion the shower was short-lived.
Our thanks to all at Newhaven Fort and the
re-enactment groups for keeping history alive.
